For six years, Vijay Deverakonda has been on a dry spell at the box office. Taxiwala, his most recent single, was released in 2018.
Vijay Deverakonda has finally resolved to move on from the shortcomings of his last film, The Family Star, and focus on his next projects. In fact, on his 35th birthday, the actor revealed not one, but two films. Will these films, however, help him regain his star power at the box office?
Vijay’s Redemption Strategy
To get back on track, the actor has carefully chosen not one, but two scripts that may provide him with the necessary push and enable him to overcome the number game, especially given the current state of Telugu cinema.
The year 2024 has been good for South Indian films, particularly Telugu and Malayalam. The year began with a bang with Teja Sajja’s HanuMan, which established the tone for Telugu films to be valued and adored for their content.
Vijay Deverakonda has two films
Dil Raju and Ravi Kiran Kola are the producers and directors of the first film revealed. A poster for the massively produced country drama with pan-Indian appeal has been released.
Vijay holds a machete on the image, giving it an action-packed vibe. The poster has a thick line that contributes to its intensity. This is Vijay’s first time playing a full-fledged rural character on such a large stage, so it should be interesting to watch him set the screen on fire.
‘The Legend of the Cursed Land’
The other film is by Rahul Sankrityan and stars Vijay Deverakonda. A rather unusual poster for the film has been unveiled, with the dates 1854-1878 engraved on a stone idol. Hopefully, this will be a period film that adds a lot of drama to Vijay’s intriguing cast.
Last Hit in 2018
Arjun Reddy’s most recent successful film was Taxiwala, released in 2018. The film earned approximately 41.70 crore at the box office and was one of the highest-grossing films of the year. Interestingly, Rahul Sankrityan directed the eerie comedy. Hopefully, he can assist Vijay in regaining his power through ‘The Legend of the Cursed Land.’
Five Consecutive Flops
After Taxiwala, Vijay Deverakonda had five straight box office disappointments, including his Hindi feature debut, Liger, and his most recent release, The Family Star, co-starring Mrunal Thakur.
Here is a box office collection of his last five films, together with their verdicts
The World Famous Lover: 12.55 crore (flop), Kushi: 48.26 crore (average), Dear Comrade: 26.20 crore (average), Liger: 41.17 crore (flop), and The Family Star: 21 crore (flop).
