Following the Padma Bhushan, Usha Uthup said, “I am a people’s singer; I help people forget their worries”

Usha Uthup talks candidly about being presented with President Droupadi Murmu’s prestigious Padma Bhushan award in New Delhi.

Following her acceptance of President Droupadi Murmu’s coveted Padma Bhushan award in New Delhi, Usha Uthup is bursting with emotions. According to the singer, receiving acknowledgment fosters a strong sense of patriotism and inspires them to work even harder and improve.

Uthup tells us excitedly, “The award means the world to me because it is a sheer and absolute recognition from your country and the government.” The 76-year-old continues, “It makes for a wonderful moment of total humility and gratitude when your government, country, and your people appreciate what you have done and the hard work that you’ve put in for so many years.”

At a formal ceremony conducted at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday, Uthup received the esteemed Padma Bhushan award in recognition of her contributions to the music business. She is still glowing with happiness.

“It was very strange to receive the award from the President.” It still amazes me that it was all real. It seemed unreal. We had rehearsals before the ceremony, during which we were instructed on where to namaste, turn around, and walk. When my name was announced, even after the practice, my heart was racing,” she remembers, not because she was surprised, but rather because it was finally happening. My heartbeat was audible in both my ears and throat.

The seasoned vocalist remarks, “It was magical,” regarding his experience at Rashtrapati Bhavan. One gets a strong sense of patriotism from the architecture and the rich history of the place.”

For more than 50 years, Usha Uthup has mesmerized audiences with her notes and melodies in several languages. Several popular songs, including Ramba Ho Ho, Hari Om Hari, Koi Yahan Aha, One Two Cha Cha Cha, and Darling, are credited to her.

She wishes to give the honor to everyone who has helped her along the way in her musical career. “I would like to dedicate the prize to the general public for their unwavering support over the years.54 years old… I’ve always thought of myself as a singer for the people, someone who sings to make people laugh and forget their problems. Making people cry and feel bad is easier than getting them to forget their problems. According to Uthup, “I have dedicated the award to the people.”

She now claims that being recognized is motivating her to “be much better and more hardworking.” Additionally, it gives the younger generation the encouragement they need to persevere and put in a lot of effort. At some time, the people and the government will acknowledge your efforts and hard work,” she says.
