Story:
Rathnam (Vishal) is close to Panneer Swamy (Samuthirakani), the MLA for Chittoor. He is involved in conflicts all the time. When he spots Mallika (Priya Bhavani Shankar) one day, he begins to follow her. Rathnam discovers quickly that thugs are attempting to kill Mallika. Rathnam spends a lot of energy shielding Mallika. These goons are who? Why do they wish for Mallika’s death? Rathnam put his life in danger for Mallika, but why? This is the essence of Rathnam.
Bonus Points
Vishal is the type of performer who consistently delivers a flawless performance. He gave a powerful performance with total conviction in Rathnam as well. He looks amazing in every action scene. Vishal carries the movie with him and has excellent body language.
A handful of the well-thought-out action scenes in the film may be appealing to a broad audience. Samuthirakani and Priya Bhavani Shankar do respectable roles. Through Rathnam, Devi Sri Prasad demonstrated his antique mark. A few of the songs are quite well-written and will take us back to his early years.
Negative Points:
Though Hari’s specialty is narrative, his films typically follow a formula. He has already produced engaging films even with ordinary stories. Additionally, their rapid tempo allowed us to ignore how formulaic the texts were. This is where Rathnam stumbles, though. The narration fails to captivate us, and the director’s magic is conspicuously absent. The film features a lot of dull scenes, and there are several slow parts.
Finding the problems is inevitable when entertainment is absent. There is very little drama in the second half and an overwhelming amount of action, which gets old quickly. The editing team should have cut the film shorter because it dragged on too long at the conclusion.
The major actors experience a different emotion, which the filmmaker attempted to convey, but it isn’t done well. It is challenging to relate because the entire movie revolves around this one feeling. Yogi Babu isn’t used effectively, even though the humor succeeded in a few instances. Murali Sharma doesn’t have a lot on her plate.
Technical Features:
About the background score and songs, Devi Sri Prasad gave the movie his all. Sukumar’s five-minute single-shot action sequence is almost visualized thanks to his clean cinematography. Also excellent is the manufacturing design. The film appears to be overextended, which indicates poor editing.
Rathnam was directed by Hari, who performed a mediocre job. His inability to create moments of entertainment detracts from the film in numerous scenes. A body devoid of soul is like an action movie lacking positive emotions. Rathnam’s issue is just this.
Conclusion:
Rathnam is an overall unsatisfactory action play with inappropriate feelings. The movie features some clever action scenes, and Vishal looks great in his mass avatar. The main issue with Rathnam is the lack of conviction in the central emotion that propels the movie. Additionally absent are Hari’s former strong points—the fast-paced narrative and entertaining element. It gets tiresome after a while since the climax parts are overly drawn out. Thus, it is advised that you search for alternative possibilities this weekend.
