A lot of people are talking about Munjya, the horror-comedy that came out last week. The movie did well on its first Monday and seems to have a bright future ahead.
This is not true to life. Even though it launched with a respectable Friday number, Munjya is essentially exhibiting the best trending of any film released this year, regardless of language. It’s one thing for a movie to debut at one crore and earn another crore on Monday, but when a picture starts at 4.21 crores (including Thursday night screenings) and goes on to earn 4.11 crores on Monday, you can be sure that something special is going to happen in the coming days.
It is to be anticipated from this horror comedy, which has held up very well on Monday thanks to positive crowd word-of-mouth. The nice thing about Munjya is that it has begun to cross boundaries and there are still a ton of uncharted areas that it hasn’t reached. It was reasonable to assume that the number of shows for the movie would rise in the next week or so. However, with the coming of Chandu Champion this Friday, the number of shows will remain the same for the time being.
This low-budget movie is already up to 24.15 crores, so it’s on track to become a ‘Plus’ soon. In the current trajectory, however, a minimum of 75 crores is anticipated, and at that point, a “Super-Hit” tag will be up for grabs as well.
