Many feminists and industry professionals condemned Sandeep Vanga’s ideas after he launched his film Animal. When Sanjay Leela Bhansali made similar provocative remarks about his show Heeramandi – The Diamond Bazaar, he received no reaction. The series received little attention or audience, although Bhansali regarded it as a charming spot, stating, “To me, Heeramandi was the most romantic place. “I’m from that world.”
Sanjaya Leela Bhansali also spoke out, saying, “I regard prostitutes as fascinating and powerful women. They use art to sing, dance, and express their emotions. They have an understanding of living, architecture, clothing, and jewelry. They are true art enthusiasts. Middle-class women queuing in ration lines do not pique my interest.”
Sandeep Reddy Vanga supporters believe that Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s views are similarly reprehensible yet are not denounced. They emphasize that directors such as Shyam Benegal produced iconic films portraying middle-class life. This incident has created debate concerning Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s selective criticism while Sanjay Leela Bhansali is not subjected to the same scrutiny.
