Rowoon: The Matchmakers by Rowoon has received all-time high viewership ratings ahead of its finale episode, which is set to air next week.
K-dramas’ popularity skyrocketed this year, but do you know what else skyrocketed in 2023? It is the fan base of actor Rowoon. While he already has an impressive resume with K-dramas such as Extraordinary You (2019), She Would Never Know (2021), and Tomorrow (2022), the fame brought him by Destined With You is unparalleled. His popularity now appears to have aided his ongoing drama, The Matchmakers, which is entering its final week with all-time-high viewership ratings.
Rowoon announced his departure from his boy band SF9 in September to pursue personal interests, including acting, and what followed was his meteoric rise as a true K-drama star. Notably, the singer remains the ninth member of SF9, supporting the other eight members throughout their musical journey.
The Matchmakers follows Jung Soon-deok (Cho Yi-hyun) and Shim Jung-woo (Rowoon), two young widows who decide to form a union in order to marry off three single ladies who represent the issue of “old maidens” in Joseon. Hwang Seung Gi and Kim Soo-jin’s KBS2 drama premiered on October 23 to rave reviews and critical acclaim.
According to Nielsen Korea, the average nationwide audience rate for KBS2’s The Matchmakers episode 15 was 5.0 percent. This is the drama’s highest-ever rating, matching the previous episode.
A Bloody Lucky Day, a TVN drama, received an average national rating of 2.2 percent, a slight decrease from the previous episode’s 2.7 percent rating. Tell Me You Love Me, on the other hand, received an average nationwide rating of 1.9 percent, the same as the previous episode.
The Matchmakers’ final episode is scheduled to air the following week. Fans of the Rowoon starrer are anticipating an even greater surge in buzz due to the ongoing craze surrounding it, which will raise its average viewership.
