Story
The narrative follows Selvam (Vijay Kumar), an aspiring footballer facing financial challenges. His mentor, Benji (Kaarthekeyen Santhanam), holds significant importance in Selvam’s life and is also running for the position of a councillor. Tragically, Benji is killed by his own brother, Joseph (Avinash Raghudevan), and a local drug peddler, Kiruba (Shankar Thas), in an unforeseen turn of events. This leaves Selvam stranded in his pursuit of becoming a footballer, reducing him to a college student who continues to play the sport. Kiruba, on the other hand, rises to become a councilor while Joseph languishes in jail. Upon his release, Joseph harbors a desire for revenge against Kiruba. However, Selvam’s negative perception of Kiruba stems from Benji’s passing. The rest of the story revolves around these three characters’ intense mind games. – Fight Club Review
Plus Points
In terms of acting, Vijay Kumar gave an outstanding performance as a young man torn between love, addiction, politics, and vengeance. Shankar Thas and Avinash Raghudevan’s portrayals of cunning villains were impressive, while Kaarthekeyen Santhanam made a good impression with his acting in a limited screen time. The rest of the supporting cast did their jobs. Monisha Mohan Menon, the female lead, is merely a passing cloud in this film.
Minus Points
A mix of sports, friendship, politics, and retaliation can be found in Fight Club. Only four major characters were well written; the others were vague. The weak screenplay and careless writing in the second part of the movie are its main issues. This thin plot has been given far too much runtime by the creators. Though it’s easy to predict, they attempt to keep the tension high until the very end. The amazing ending sequence compensates for the aforementioned shortcomings.
Technical Aspects
The central focus of the movie is the stunt blocks. Among all the other elements of the film, Vicky and Amrin Abubakker’s action choreography is particularly noteworthy. The core of Fight Club is its editing, which keeps the audience interested throughout. Editor Kripakaran is deserving of much recognition for his efforts. The songs and original musical score by Govind Vasantha are amazing. Even when the classic songs and melodies are repeated, his variations are outstanding. Crucial scenes are made even more intense by Leon Britto’s camera work. From a technical standpoint, this movie is outstanding.
Final Verdict
Despite its small shortcomings, Fight Club provides an exhilarating action experience.
