The film Ambajipeta Marriage Band, starring Suhas and newcomer Shivani Nagaram, premiered today to moderate anticipation. Check out our review to see if the film meets your expectations.

Story:

The film is set in 2007 in the village of Ambajipeta. Mallikarjun (Suhas), a barber and drummer, and Padmavathi (Saranya Pradeep), a government schoolteacher, are twins from a lower caste. Some villagers believe Venkat (Nithin Prasanna), the village’s most influential figure, and Padmavathi are having an affair. However, the situation becomes tense when the upper caste Venkat insults Padma about a personal matter, causing a schism between Mallikarjun and Venkat. The events that unfold between Venkat, Malli, and Padma create a captivating story that demands attention on the big screen.

Plus Points:

A movie succeeds in entertaining viewers when it has a good story, a decent screenplay, and strong performances, which is exactly what the Ambajipeta Marriage Band does.

Suhas takes on another intriguing role, shining with compassion as he immerses himself in the character, keeping the audience glued to the story.

Saranya Pradeep, as Suhas’ sister, takes on an impressive and powerful character with pride. She gives a compelling performance due to her well-written character, which enhances the overall storyline. A couple of scenes with Saranya are sure to elicit enthusiastic reactions, possibly even whistles.

Despite her debut in a feature film, Shivani Nagaram performs admirably, justifying her presence on screen. Her scenes with Suhas have a cute and lovely vibe.

Supporting actors such as ‘Pushpa’ Jagadeesh and Nithin Prasanna give their all to the film, and the music complements it well.

Minus points:

Director Dushyanth Katikaneni, who also wrote the film, chooses a story with few major twists, similar to an industry hit. However, despite its simplicity, his screenplay is effective.

While the love story is acceptable, it could have been handled better in the latter half. Creating a more interesting emotional bond between Suhas and Saranya Pradeep would have improved the resonance during emotional scenes.

Although the story is somewhat heavy-handed, a slightly better and more racy screenplay in the second half could have made the film more engaging.

Technical aspects:

Dushyanth Katikaneni makes an excellent debut as a writer and director. However, focusing more on the storyline and including a few more hard-hitting dialogues could have improved the film’s overall quality.

Music director Sekhar Chandra, cinematographer Wajid Baig, and editor Kodati Pawan Kalyan all play their parts flawlessly, elevating the film’s quality. Special thanks to the production team for their significant investment in the project.

Verdict:

Overall, the Ambajipeta Marriage Band is a compelling drama that addresses a social issue and features outstanding performances from Suhas, Saranya Pradeep, and Nithin Prasanna. The film’s drawbacks include a predictable, straightforward plot and a slightly slow narration in the second half. You can watch this movie this weekend.
