Story
Ram Karthik’s character, Hemanth, is an orphan who co-owns a coffee business with a friend. He falls in love with Chaitra (Hebah Patel), who supplies cookies for his enterprise. Chaitra first rejects Hemanth’s proposal because of it. Hemanth makes the decision to leave the city in order to let go of his memories of Chaitra. Chaitra confesses her affection for Hemanth just before he departs.
Because Chaitra would soon pass away, she claims she is unable to wed Hemanth. She also informs Hemanth that her family is committing suicide in large numbers. What led to the startling choice that Chaitra’s family made? Next, what did Hemanth do? This is related to the narrative.
Plus Points:
The film is on the subject of mass suicide/cult suicide, which has inspired a few documentaries. The Great Indian Suicide is undoubtedly inspired by the Burari Deaths, but the presentation is distinct. A family wishes to commit mass suicide in order for one of their departed relatives to be resurrected. The protagonist falls in love with the female lead, who is related to him, and seeks to figure out who is influencing others. The plot concept is intriguing.
If you think the film is only about the concept of mass suicide, you’re in for a few surprises. The final half-hour is jam-packed with unanticipated shocks that keep coming at you.
At the same time, they are startling and unsettling. At the conclusion, the filmmaker addressed a few difficulties and made an effort to connect them to the main idea, which is commendable.
Minus Points
The pacing of films like The Great Indian Suicide must be extremely rapid in order for the effect to be strong. However, the picture slows down in the middle for a little period of time, and the proceedings get tedious. Scenes that could have been more exciting were delivered in a bland manner.
In addition, the film contains a few needless scenes that may have been cut entirely. They consume a significant amount of screen time. Instead, the creators should have focused more on the detailing. Jayaprakash’s character should have been written better because he goes away after a time.
There was more potential for horror themes, but it was unexpected that the creators eventually neglected that part. As some of the scenes might be painful to see, the movie might not be appropriate for family viewing.
Final Verdict
The Great Indian Suicide offers an intriguing notion overall, but the movie isn’t totally compelling. The film becomes quite engaging in the final thirty minutes, which is filled with numerous shocks that are challenging to predict. The work Hebah Patel and others did was excellent. It would have been drastically different if the mid-portions had been presented better. The movie would end up being a watchable movie this weekend if you could overlook the plodding pacing.
