Finally, SS Rajamouli is cited as an inspiration in Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana. Will Baahubali’s hegemony at the box office be challenged?
The Ramayana starring Ranbir Kapoor has finally changed gears and moved in the right direction. With a staggering budget of over 800 crore, the film has now turned to SS Rajamouli for inspiration, following the Baahubali path to success. However, the question still stands: will it surpass Baahubali?
Ramayana Via the Path of Baahubali
Originally intended to be a trilogy, Nitesh Tiwari’s masterpiece focused on the kidnapping of Devi Sita and Lord Rama’s youth in the first section. The legendary Ram-Varana conflict was presented in the third section, whereas the second portion concentrated mostly on Ravana, his past, and Sita’s years in the Ashok Vatika.
This intricate concept has been scaled back, and SS Rajamouli—a living example of how to make successful films—has been cited as an inspiration for the movie. Therefore, Ramayana has chosen to be a two-part picture that will be shot in one sitting, in line with SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali.
Ramayana’s Extensive Shoot Plan
A yearlong schedule has been planned for the two Ramayana films, in which Ranbir Kapoor plays Lord Ram and Sai Pallavi plays Devi Sita. These two films will be shot together and combined into a two-part extravaganza that will be distributed over a year, beginning in early 2027. But would this Baahubali strategy benefit the film, as it did for Baahubali?
Baahubali’s Box Office Collection
The two Baahubalis were made on a total budget of 380 – 400 crore, with 250 crore spent on Baahubali: The Conclusion. While the first film grossed over 600 crore at the box office, the sequel grossed over 1800 crore worldwide. In sum, both Baahubali films grossed 2400 crores worldwide.
Ramayana Budget
Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana budget is already more than 100 percent greater than Prabhas’ mammoth blockbuster. With more competence and vision, if the film acquires confidence and concentrates on a magnificent filmmaking technique, it has the potential to shatter the Baahubali mania at the box office, writing another chapter in cinema history.
