One of Hollywood’s most well-known and influential actors, Robert Downey Jr. is adored for his Iron Man role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A few years ago, he did say goodbye to it. Despite this, fans are still calling for his return, though Joanna Robinson, the author of MCU books, says it appears even less likely given his excellent performance in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. It was speculated that he would make a cameo in Avengers: Secret Wars, which is scheduled for release in 2027.
Lewis Strauss, the chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission and the movie’s antagonist, was portrayed by RDJ. Downey was able to let go of his Iron Man persona thanks to the critical and financial success of the Nolan-directed picture. At last, the public could perceive him as the exceptional performer he truly is.
Co-author of MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios Joanna Robinson discussed why the likelihood of Robert Downey Jr. making a comeback to the MCU is now lower following the publication of Oppenheimer. According to a Screenrant report, Robinson stated during Phase Zero, “Between Evans and Downey, I would have said before Downey because once you get into the later chapters, you find out that Downey was kind of like, ‘no thank you,’ and didn’t want to be killed off in Endgame.” It makes sense that he would be among the easiest people to reach back. Not just a phone call, but a lot of money. However, I believe Downey is about to receive an Oscar for Oppenheimer, which may have altered the equation for how prepared he is to reprise his Tony Stark role.
For those who don’t know, in the 2019 movie Avengers: Endgame, Robert Downey Jr.’s character Iron Man gave his life to save others. Rumors circulated that he would reprise his role as Tony Stark in upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe productions, primarily Avengers: Secret Wars. Additionally, there were rumors that RDJ was spotted on the sets of Captain America: Brave New World, which stars Anthony Mackie in the role of the newly appointed Captain America following Chris Evans’s passing on of the shield.
Not only RDJ, but there have also been rumors about Chris Evans joining the MCU again, but they are still just rumors.
