Michael Jackson Biopic Arrives at Universal for International

Michael Jackson: Lionsgate is a supporter of the movie, which was made by Graham King (Bohemian Rhapsody) and directed by Antoine Fuqua.

The international rights to the Michael Jackson biopic have been acquired by Universal.

The project is sponsored by Lionsgate, and Antoine Fuqua will serve as the director. In the movie depicting the singer’s life, Jackson’s nephew Jaafar Jackson will portray him. Japan is the only country whose rights are not included in the Universal Agreement.

The script was written by Gladiator and The Aviator screenwriter John Logan.

The biopic, which is being produced in collaboration with Michael Jackson’s estate, which has defended him against claims of sexually abusing children, claims that it will cover every aspect of Jackson’s life. However, it is unclear how it will address the numerous controversies surrounding the late music icon. Leaving Neverland, an HBO documentary that was released in 2019, brought the charges back into the public eye.

Michael’s multidecade career “left an indelible mark on the way audiences experience entertainment all over the world,” according to Joe Drake of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group. We are excited to work with our friends at Universal to provide fans around the world with a fresh perspective on one of the most prolific artists the world has ever known.

Filming on Michael is anticipated to start up again as soon as the SAG-AFTRA strike is ended.
