Joker: Folie A Deux: Joaquin Phoenix’s Remark That The Joker Involved Greater Violence Than The Avengers Films

Joker Star Joaquin Phoenix once likened the film’s violence to that of the Avengers. Before the trailer for Joker 2 is released, read this throwback.

The release of Joker: Folie A Deux, Todd Phillips’ follow-up to his crime thriller Joker, is highly anticipated. Joaquin Phoenix played the menacing antagonist in the film, which went on to become a massive hit at the box office and earn over $1 billion USD worldwide. The film created quite a stir and became a cultural phenomenon. Joaquin Phoenix once remarked that the Joker had more “raw and visceral violence” than the Avengers films.

There were many conflicting reactions when the first Joker movie was announced. When Jared Leto played that part in the Suicide Squad earlier, he was a very different Joker.

But when it came out, the Todd Phillips-directed movie was praised highly and went on to become one of the highest-grossing R-rated movies ever. He was receiving both commercial and critical praise for the Phoenix.

In Hollywood, comparisons between metrics and star cast are not uncommon. We typically learn about the most fascinating trivia and occasionally contentious remarks during press tours. Joaquin made the analogies in reaction to the Joker’s level of violence.

Joaquin made reference to the horrific violence portrayed in superhero films when he said, “I don’t know how many people die in the Avengers, but there’s a lot,” in an interview with SFX magazine. “This (Joker) has violence that is immediate, on-screen, and a little more visceral and raw,” he said.

Additionally, he stated that he felt more at ease with the Joker’s gory and fingernail-bleeding style. The Napoleon star added that he wanted the violence to feel genuine and that he had no qualms about it.

“What happens in a lot of movies is that you get numb to it; you’re killing 40,000 people, you don’t feel it,” he said, drawing more parallels. You always want it to feel real, even though it’s a fictional story set in a fictional universe. You are physically present for every violent scene in this film.

Furthermore, the violence in the film Joker feels incredibly genuine and authentic. The film validated the public’s faith in Joaquin Phoenix’s abilities. Instead of undermining the work of its forebears, such as Heath Ledger and Jared Leto, he brings fresh energy to the Joker role.

Fans have been eagerly awaiting the trailer for Joker: Folie A Deux since the first glimpse of the film was unveiled some time ago. Pop sensation Lady Gaga will play Harley Quinn in the follow-up. There are rumors that the Joker: Folie A Deux trailer will be released in April.
