Ghilli, starring Thalapathy Vijay and Trisha, has shattered five major box office records in just 15 days!
It has been 15 days since Thalapathy Vijay and Trisha Krishnan’s Ghilli was released at the box office, commemorating 20 years after the premiere of the blockbuster, which made 50 crores globally and was the third Tamil film to do so after Indian and Padiyappa.
Ghilli is breaking box office records
The sports action picture, which was released as a festive celebration, is currently leading the Tamil Box Office. Despite being re-released 20 years later, it remains the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2024.
Ghilli debuted at the box office with more than 7 crore and went on to gross more than 10 crore globally, causing excitement. Now, after two weeks at the box office, it is ramping up for its third week and is poised to break some of the largest milestones.
In 15 days, Thalapathy Vijay’s film broke five key records.
The third highest-grossing film in Kollywood in 2024
Ghilli is the third highest-grossing Tamil film of 2024, surpassing Rajinikanth’s Lal Salaam at the box office, which now ranks fourth in India with a revenue of 17.50 crore. Above Ghilli, the top two films are Ayalaan (49.50 crore crores) and Captain Miller (43 crore).

Thalapathy Vijay has the third-largest opening in Tamil Nadu for 2024. It was in second place, but the recently released Aranmanai 4 exceeded Ghilli’s debut, pushing it to third.

Ghilli has become the biggest domestic release in the country, surpassing Hollywood’s re-release. Avatar 3D grossed 18 crores in 2012. Meanwhile, Sholay 3D grossed Rs 13 crore at the box office.

Ghilli’s re-release is presently earning about 33 crore, surpassing Rajinikanth’s Lal Salaam to become the third highest-grossing Tamil film of 2024 worldwide.
