While easy and predictable, the picture features terrific voice talents from Chris Pratt, Samuel L. Jackson, and others, connecting all of the humor for a good time.
Analysis of the Script for the Film Garfield
It surprised me that I enjoyed The Garfield Movie because, to be honest, I never really liked Garfield—at least not the version of him I saw as a child in his animated TV series. Perhaps this is because Garfield is much less dull and more eccentric than someone who just wants to eat and sleep. I haven’t enjoyed myself with Garfield before, so this is new.
This is not to argue that The Garfield Movie is a great film—far from it. It is actually a fairly conventional CGI animated film for the era; it doesn’t push the boundaries in any way, but it doesn’t have to; it just needs to be enjoyable, which it is, despite the script’s use of a very predictable plot and structure that, regrettably, prevents any major surprises or revelations. Although this is written from the perspective of an adult, children may find the script’s development to be much more meaningful.
Nevertheless, the humor will appeal to adults and children alike. This is a pretty humorous movie in a way that feels innocent and basic yet effective. The jokes themselves, which range from brilliant to great examples of physical comedy, and the voice actors’ performances are undoubtedly responsible for the film’s success in this area.
Since Garfield is clearly domesticated and does not enjoy being in the wild, the Garfield Movie’s plan to take him on a trip outside of his house should provide plenty of amusing scenarios. Along the way, the script presents many humorous characters; none of them will immediately become beloved, but they do a good job of adjusting the tone and placing Garfield in more awkward circumstances.
Review of The Garfield Movie: Standout Performance
Chris Pratt, who recently saw tremendous success in the industry owing to the Super Mario Bros. Movie, one of the most successful films at the box office last year, is at the center of the Garfield Movie, which includes several celebrities in voice roles. While he was much more subdued in the Mario Bros. Movie, Pratt performs more in line with his usual style in The Garfield Movie, where he is free to embrace his charisma and give Garfield a much-needed boost of charm without compromising his lethargic demeanor.
Alongside Garfield’s father Vic and other important characters in the film, Samuel L. Jackson also delivers a fantastic job. We always value Jackson’s presence since he effortlessly manages to capture Pratt’s charisma. The actor who dominates every scene, though, is Ving Rhames as the bull Otto. His character is quite impactful for a small part.
Examining the Direction and Music of the Film Garfield
Even though his directing output has been relatively limited, Mark Dindal is a tremendously underappreciated director who has some true gems in his repertoire, such as Chicken Little and The Emperor’s New Groove. But in comparison, it seems mild, and perhaps that’s simply because I’m older now than I was when I first saw those movies. It is difficult to identify something like that from the standpoint of an adult, but the fun factor that accompanied his previous work is still present. As a result, I don’t see anything spectacular when I watch it, but perhaps there is for the children who will watch it in theaters and have probably seen very few films like this.
But in contrast to the work in many other animated movies, the animation’s quality seems a little bit basic. Although it wouldn’t fit and would be crazy to expect something similar to what was done in Spider-Man Across the SpiderVerse, the way each show’s movie is framed and moves seems incredibly safe. Though it’s a minor quibble that won’t detract from the overall enjoyment of the film, it would have been intriguing to see some more audacious moments here and there.
The Final Word on the Garfield Movie Review
Both kids and adults will find The Garfield Movie to be a great experience at the movies. Unfortunately, it is unlikely to become a classic in the same way that The Emperor’s New Groove did. This isn’t because it is bad, but rather because it is too safe and doesn’t dare to take the risk necessary to produce something genuinely memorable. Still, while you are watching it in a theater, it will bring charm and laughter into your life.
