When Johnny and Amber got back together for The Rum Diary press tour, Johnny had previously admitted that he knew he had fallen in love. He announced his divorce from Vanessa Paradis in 2012 after a 12-year marriage. Then his romance with Heard started, but sadly it didn’t end happily ever after.

2011 saw Amber Heard gushing about her co-star and future husband, Johnny Depp, nonstop. “Johnny Depp is who he is because he is this enigmatic presence that is hard to define, hard to label, and hard to pin down,” the actress said to Young Hollywood. You can’t help but be drawn into the Johnny Deppness on set because he is a beautiful person and the epitome of professionalism.

January 2014 saw Johnny Depp allegedly become engaged. “It was really sweet, he got down on one knee and said, ‘I want you to be my girl, be my girl forever,'” Amber Heard recalled the moment during the defamation trial. Forever is what I want you to be in my life. Accept my offer.

The couple got married in a small ceremony in February 2015. After things eventually got worse, Amber filed for divorce and obtained a restraining order against the Pirates of the Caribbean actor in May of the following year. In an opinion piece she penned for The Washington Post, she accused him of sexual and domestic abuse.

Johnny and Amber engaged in some court battles. To finalize their divorce, the actor paid $7 million in alimony. But he took The Sun to court after they called him a “wife beater.” The Aquaman star was ordered to pay $10.35 million in damages in the recent $50 million defamation trial that JD won, but the case was ultimately settled for $1 million.

Along with her partner Bianca Butti and daughter Oonagh Paige, Amber Heard has been leading a tranquil life in Spain ever since the defamation suit was lost. Professionally, she’ll be making a comeback to the big screen in Aquaman 2, which also stars Jason Momoa.

In contrast, Johnny Depp is content with his life in the Bahamas away from the spotlight. In an attempt to bring his career back to life, he is selling paintings, performing with The Hollywood Vampires, and recently releasing the French film Jeanne du Barry.
