Introduction:

“Música” is a bright romantic soap opera with elements of drama shot by and with Rudy Mancuso, who is famous as a content maker and musician. This time the film is devoted to such peculiarities of the so-called synesthesia – a situation when one type of perception triggers another one without any delay, and highlights the life of a young man and his wish to be in love, and run a successful business, and, overall, find himself. Therefore attributing a plot and concentrating on music, «Música» is an interesting and diverse narration that tells the viewers about creativity and relations in certain ways.

Story:

The detailed plot of the work is connected with the main character, the boy named Rudy, who has synesthesia and was brought up in Newark, New Jersey. As he prepares to graduate college while still living at home with his overbearing mother (played by his real-life mother, Maria Mancuso), Rudy juggles his aspirations as a puppeteer and his complicated relationships with two women: His ex-girlfriend Haley portrayed by Francesca Reale, The other girl, Isabella portrayed by Camila Mendes she is a fishmonger who gets excited him for his painting.

In short, Rudy’s struggle for loving someone is juxtaposition with the necessity to fulfil family’s expectations as well as seeing life from the perspective of the protagonist; at the same time, Rudy battles his fears and attempts to be the best version of himself. One can also notice that the main aspects of the manifest magical realism in the film are set in parallel with the musical episodes that show the further, more colourful side of Rudy.

Review:

“Música” is a new film about the coming of age and the audience can watch the story exclusively from the perspective of Rudy Mancuso as both actor and director. Still, despite the interesting playing with a synesthetic theme, there are more ‘war horses’ mentioned by critics on the film’s official website at times the romantic plot seems too familiar. In total, “Música” is an entertaining piece packed full of an infinite amount of fun, spirituality, and of course – good laughs.

Positives:

  • Inventive Concept: Synesthetic integration to this is advantageous to the telling of the story because it corresponds with the way Rudy sees things, From a point of view we get a point of view that embodies a visual perspective.
  • Strong Performances: Rudy Mancuso, who also wrote the script of the semi-autobiographical character, does a tremendously good job portraying the character’s adversities and dreams. Camila Mendes also does a great job when portraying Isabella, style and depth included.
  • Engaging Musical Elements: This movie too has some lively insertions of music to portray the conflict/s and state of mind of Rudy within the film and uses the musicality of the production of the film not very frequently with singing and dancing.

Negatives:

  • Predictable Plot Points: The gunslinger’s love story indeed relates familiar cliches that are not breathtaking in the hands of someone who regularly watches such releases.
  • Pacing Issues: They seemed to be into explaining too much detail for some scenes while others lacked the feeling of urgency which thought might be unimportant to interest levels.
  • Underdeveloped Supporting Characters: As much as the audience is privileged to fully develop the character of Rudy, there are some supporting characters whose positions can be made more pronounced to become even more important in the movie.

Technical Aspects:

  • Direction: Like any other movie particularly those in the romantic comedy genre, Rudy Mancuso seems to fail in exploiting the opportunities that come with the movie while at the same time using cliches yet the potential is showcased.
  • Cinematography: The attitude towards emplacement, the way and the frequency of the use of shots, and the work of the camera can immerse the viewers into the 1980 vibrant Newark while at the same time portraying Rudy’s synesthesia well.
  • Editing: Regarding the usage of editing one may say that the editors did a fairly good job towards the fact that the majority of the sequences in the movie have at least a good rhythm though the editors would have made an extra effort in an attempt to edit some scenes in a way that would make the flow of the movie much better.

Performance:

Rudy Mancuso’s phenomenal acting skill as Rudy: The Movie either required to be serious or comic, sincere or funny, he proved he was capable for all. Camila Mendes delivers a good performance as Isabella for being a nice counterpoint for Rudy’s character. Francesca Reale only supports the show as Haley and unfortunately, her character is rather one-dimensional.

Moviepoptime Review:

I did like the look of the film; there was a lot of clever use of visuals. The colour displayed here was magnificent, the scene transitions were good, and the music used was also good. In terms of the plot and the look, I liked it. I was able to give this film three stars only because it was greatly advertised as a film portraying Brazilian life a component which I thought was rare for Brazilians residing in America.

Thus, I guess that in the movie they used more actual caricatures of Brazilians than the real traits of the Brazilian people. There is no doubt that I got a rather bluish impression of the primary actors in the Portuguese dialogue, and the impression that they did not know Portuguese at all was with me.

What I really would have liked is that the representation of what it is like to be a Brazilian was slightly more thought out. Is it then maybe designed only for Brazilians who would claim to be Americans? While I would have liked to see more Brazilian characters like her, I did like the mother character. However, the picture that it gives of Brazilian society was not entirely correct then the film was full of creativity and was very good. In the future, one would like to be able to see more. He has a very bright future ahead of him!!!

Conclusion:

“Música” is a tropical romantic fantasy that compelling integrates magical realism with fortysomething’s coming–of–age. Even though it may not tell us some extraordinary story and might poorly set its pace here and there, it is certainly worth watching since it unique point of view on synesthesia and a good cast. “Música” is enjoyable because of the visual side of the film as well as the music; it is a good movie for people who just want to watch a love story film.
