Story:

The setting is primarily focusing on a character called Rain Carradine, portrayed by an actress named Cailee Spaeny, a young woman, who lives on a brutal mining colony in the exoplanet of Jackson’s Star. Bored with a lonely life Rain and her friends decide to kidnap an unoccupied space station in orbit around their part of the planet. This, however, changes when they assume that the station is empty before they realise that is not the case since the Xenomorph is there with them too.

There is vandalism and corporate greed coupled with how the employees and the community are suppressed as this group struggles to defeat this antagonist and survive. The plot also shows that the actor from the first movie “Alien” is also rare, such an aspect makes the movie appealing.

Review:

That being said, ‘Alien Romulus’ is a full-blooded film, and it is a very definite action-summed-up one, and it does distil the best of the initial two films in the series. Despite starring fairly unknown actors, the young cast is very good, and Fede Álvarez’s work on the director’s chair makes sure the necessary eerie atmosphere is created. However, the movie fails to provide proper character and personality advancement to the supporting characters and sometimes gets obsessed with references and fanbase.

Positives:

  • Impressive Creature Design: Of them, Xenomorph is recognizable because it was created as a real creature through practical effects and animatronics which are the foundation of the Organic horror of the movie.
  • Engaging Lead Performances: Hopes provides an acceptable performance of acting with Cailee Spaeny and David Jonsson as Rain’s android companion, Andy.
  • Effective Tension and Suspense: Álvarez was largely responsible for plenty of scares, which are evident from its horror origins to give a neat tense atmosphere with quite several thrilling moments.

Negatives:

  • Underdeveloped Supporting Characters: The main characters and their changes are shown and are quite good but all others seem rather flat, and it is seen that the writers often miss countless chances to make the characters more complex.
  • Reliance on Nostalgia: There are moments when the film uses references to previous films way too much, and that may be even more irritating in the disguise of nostalgia.
  • Predictable Plot: It starts very strong and while overall not a bad movie, it does lose some of its steam in the middle and towards the end there are few actual shocks for veteran horror fans.

Technical Aspects:

  • Direction: Originally from Chile, Fede Álvarez, proves to be an excellent director due to his work in the last provoked horror atmosphere in the film.
  • Cinematography: The meteor-contagion impact is persistent through the silver plating amour of Galo Olivares sustaining the intense and unfriendly environment of the space station and the mining colony.
  • Sound Design: The sound effects are remarkable; the threatening roars of the Xenomorph as well as the eerie background noise work best for the film’s eerie theme.

Performance:

True to form, twenty-two-year-old Cailee Spaeny excels as Rain while vividly and, in the end, movingly embodying this outlaw’s transformation. David Jonsson is equally good as Andy an android; he adds layers to the character that are visually appealing. Even the other characters played by Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced and Spike Fearn are also good despite the bad character writing.

Moviepoptime Review:

I expected that this movie would bring some novelty to the franchise’s story, but it’s just an average horror movie. As I see, pre rehab director and subscribed studio did the same when their problems regarding Prometheus and Covenant were brought up and the outcome was to combine all 6 movies and also some theft of John Carpenter’s feelings at the end.

However, there are some entertaining scenes in the movie the main character is too sympathetic but Romolus stays an oddity of the Alien franchise. Of course for an Alien fan, it became a mandatory piece even if it’s a one-time movie.

Conclusion:

”Alien Romulus” is a good more entertained game and just a sufficient answer to the “Alien” series fans demanding a return to the series roots of horror and thematic-heavy content. It does not tell the story differently but it ensures a sort of chills and tension equivalent to the ones of the original films. The likes of Fede Álvarez’s direction and lead actors’ performance give it a boost, or else it might be called simply stupid – ‘Alien Romulus’ is a welcome addition to extend the beloved sci-fi horror franchise.
