In a recent interview, Family Star actor Mrunal Thakur revealed why she initially considered acting in Telugu movies to be challenging.
Even though actor Mrunal Thakur is currently well-known in the Telugu cinema business, there was a period when she considered leaving the field. She even confided in Dulquer Salmaan, her co-star in her debut Telugu movie, that she intended to stop making Telugu movies after Sita Ramam. In an interview with Galatta Plus, she explained why it was challenging to work in Telugu.
“I wanted to quit.”
Mrunal Thakur stated in the interview that since Hindi and Marathi were her favorite languages, she first felt “handicapped” by not knowing Telugu. She struggled with lip-syncing in the language, so she would dub her talks to grasp the subtleties. “I didn’t want to be in an environment where my lack of language skills made me feel inferior. I’m not kidding when I say that it made me restless and there were times when I wanted to give up. I’ve cried so much, yet each cry has earned me praise,” the woman remarked.
She clarified that she informed Dulquer—who made her Telugu film debut with Mahanati—that she no longer wished to work in the language during her 2022 film debut Sita Ramam. “I told him Sita Ramam will be my first and last Telugu film while we were filming in Kashmir,” I recall saying. I vowed not to work on any more Telugu movies. He simply glanced at me and said, “We’ll see.” He gave me the courage to, which is perhaps one of the reasons I am thinking of expanding into Tamil or Kannada as well these days.
Mrunal’s next project
Due to Sita Ramam’s enormous popularity, Mrunal Thakur and Nani co-starred in Shouryuv’s Hi Nanna in 2023. The movie was also a hit. April 5 is the release date of her third Telugu movie, Family Star, which is helmed by Parasuram Petla and has Vijay Deverakonda as a co-star. She has not yet disclosed any upcoming Telugu projects, but Pooja Meri Jaan in Hindi would be her next feature.
