Madgaon Express has received a new lease of life this week. Not that it wasn’t bringing in footfalls daily during the week, but what happened over the weekend is very astounding, as collections have increased dramatically once again. On Friday, the numbers increased with 0.71 crore coming in; on Saturday, the spike was even higher, with the 1 crore milestone crossed once more and 1.28 crore being earned. On Sunday, the momentum remained strong, with 1.43 crore raised.
What makes this surge all the more impressive is that the film’s present showcasing is extremely limited, with only 1-2 screenings per cinema. Nonetheless, the collections are stable because the attendance in these limited shows is more than ever. This is the type of picture that is best watched with a large group of friends in a packed theater, which results in positive word of mouth owing to all-around funny reactions.
The film has now grossed 23.73 crores, and with Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Maidaan arriving only on Wednesday evenings (rather than mornings) for paid screenings, it will benefit even more. There is a good chance that Madgaon Express will add another crore by then, bringing it closer to the 25 crore threshold. If the picture manages to gain traction even after the Eid releases, it may be able to compete for that 30 crore lifetime.
