Leonardo DiCaprio: In addition to the Titanic item, other cinematic props auctioned included Indiana Jones’ whip from The Temple of Doom and Kate Winslet’s chiffon outfit.
James Cameron’s Titanic has offered the viewers an epic love tale and enormous renown to its key actors, Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. However, one of the most contentious aspects of this famous picture is whether Jack and Rose can squeeze through the door at the end. The controversy has raged on for years, prompting the director to conduct additional research to reach a definite judgment.
The film was a commercial and critical triumph. This Cameron-directed film has won eleven Oscars and ranks among the highest-grossing films of all time. It came out in 1997. After the ship sinks, Jack instructs Rose to climb aboard the door to escape the chilly Atlantic waters. However, Rose and the audience know that Jack will not be able to share the space, and he finally dies of cold.
The notorious Titanic door was put up for auction at Heritage Auctions’ Treasures from Planet Hollywood event.
Other auctioned movie items were Indiana Jones’ whip from The Temple of Doom, Kate Winslet’s chiffon dress, and the ax from The Shining. According to THR, the door sold for $718,750, leaving behind the Indian Jones whip and The Shining axe. The whip used by Harrison Ford in The Temple of Doom came in second place, selling for $525K, followed by Jack Nicholson’s axe and Kate’s chiffon dress, which sold for $125,000.
In addition to these, the event featured an auction of Tobey Maguire’s black outfit from Spider-Man 3, Wayne Knight’s shaving cream container from Jurassic Park, and Bill Murray’s bowling ball from Kingpin.
During Valentine’s Week last year, the makers decided to re-release Titanic in honor of the holiday. Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet became fast friends after the film, which went on to become a cult classic. Their connection has endured over time. Disney+Hotstar users can watch the film online to relive their enchanted love journey.
