Karan Johar Criticizes Actors for Charging Exorbitant Salary for Films: “A Lot Of Them Are Not Really In Touch With Reality”

More than the production cost, the salary of an actor is what drives up the overall expense. Here’s what Karan Johar says about it!

After a significant shift in times, a movie’s budget of 100 crores is now considered standard. There have been several mid-sized movies with budgets of at least 100 crores in the last several years. What’s even more astonishing is that a sizable portion of this enormous sum isn’t utilized to make the movie; rather, it’s supplied to the main actors who appear in it. Filmmaker Karan Johar has already discussed it and poked fun at actors who want outrageous salaries.

High compensation is now a major issue!

Some of the country’s biggest stars opt to split profits rather than burden the film’s backers. They are convinced that their films will generate good returns through theatrical runs and non-theatrical deals, thus they will not hesitate to wait for their payment until the picture is completed. However, numerous other movie actors receive a sizable income even before the film is done, without regard for the film’s box office performance. This has put many producers under pressure.

Karan Johar discusses the high salaries of celebs

During the Kill trailer release, Karan Johar spoke with Indianexpress.com about the higher production costs caused by the actors’ hefty pay. He stated, “The cost of the entourage is the least of our concerns. The main pay of the actors must be examined. All of the actors need to grasp the times, the milieu of our movies, and how difficult it is to navigate making a motion picture of any magnitude or size.”

Karan Johar went on to say that every movie star should reconsider their asking price because even if certain producers approve their requests, it harms the entire industry.

The Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani director went on to say, “They (actors) can have as many entourage as they want; that is not the issue. While it increases our expenses, the actual concern is the mothership cost. They must investigate that. Backend arrangements, percentages of earnings, and box office slabs are all possible forms of performance-based remuneration. All of this is conceivable, but each actor must look within because many are out of touch with reality.”

On the job front

Karan Johar’s most recent film, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, starred Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt. His most recent home production, Mr & Mrs Mahi, starring Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor, is still in cinemas.
