Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan has had the largest opening day in Bollywood history after exceeding Pathaan on Day 1. Read on.
Jawan was the biggest opening day in Bollywood history.
It has happened, and that too across a very long distance. Jawan has gotten off to the biggest start in Bollywood history, far outpacing Pathaan’s opening day stats. It’s Shah Rukh Khan vs. Shah Rukh Khan since earlier this year, when Pathaan debuted to a record-breaking 57 crores, it was the biggest opener. At the time, it had outperformed Yash’s KGF – Chapter 2, the Hindi version of which had brought in 53.95 crores. While that only had a margin of about 5%, what has transpired in the case of Jawan is simply astounding because the margin is now close to 30%, which is simply enormous.
This further demonstrates the full potential of Hindi films because such a phenomenon has never previously been seen and because it occurred in less than six months, demonstrating how the theater industry has been booming like never before.
The first-day box office receipts for the Top 10 openers look like this:
Jawan – 75 crores* (including 10 crores* from south versions)
Pathaan – 57 crores (including 2 crores from south versions)
KGF – Chapter 2 [Hindi] – 53.95 crores
War – 53.35 crores (including 1.75 crores from south versions)
Thugs of Hindostan – 52.25 crores (including 1.50 crores from south versions)
Happy New Year – 44.97 crores (including 2.37 crores from south versions)
Bharat – 42.30 crores
Baahubali – The Conclusion [Hindi] – 41 crores
Prem Ratan Dhan Payo – 40.35 crores
Gadar 2 – 40.10 crores
Adipurush [Hindi], which earned 37.25 crores and was at No. 10 when Jawan came, is one movie that has only spent a very brief time in the Top 10. Gadar 2, the year’s biggest hit, is presently ranked No. 10 on the list, but after Tiger 3 debuts this Diwali, it will drop off.
