Story:

The film is based on Nella (Ananya Panday) a young talented woman who after a bad break-up with her boyfriend Joe (Vihaan Samat) gives control of her life to an artificial intelligence mobile application known as CTRL. At first, this decision of the woman seems liberating but things start getting worse when Nella asks the app to ‘delete her ex-boyfriend’. Far from reality, Joe disappears with Nella facing organisational challenges and breaking down the line between right and wrong.

Gradually, CTRL tempts the viewers with the problems of using technology in communication or the theme of battling between order and disorder. The film will have its viewers more like a thriller because they will see Nella paying the price for what she has done.

Review:

It may be well therefore noted that viewers of CTRL can enjoy romance alongside thrillers, something that cannot be said of other romantic dramas. The story is contemporary and hits closer to home today than perhaps it would have doomsday as it captures on the reel the vices of social media and the proliferation of technology and its effect on virtual emotional relationships.

Plus Points:

  • Intriguing Concept: It is rather interesting and timely to consider the usage of artificial intelligence to regulate interpersonal relationships. It bridges concerns concerning autonomy control as well.
  • Strong Performances: Ananya Pandat does complete justice to Nella and I got the feeling that portraying Nellas’ emotional struggle was very well done. Finally, Vihaan Samat plays Joe and does a good job too, and he is also quite good.
  • Cinematic Quality: The production quality is quite good considering that is a low-budget film with good cinematography pointing to actual city views as well as specific scenes.
  • Engaging Direction: Newcomer Vikramaditya Motwane adds a new dimension to explore the work by maintaining apprehension along with the heart and soul of the story.

Minus Points:

  • Predictable Twists: Still, the basic idea itself is quite hooking The audience might, however, feel that some of the twists are quite clichéd if they tend to watch similar movies.
  • Character Depth: While watching the show, there are a fair amount of times when the main characters and their dynamics are overshadowing the side characters and their stories.
  • Pacing Issues: With this, there are various scenes where the rhythm is a little dragging which is a No-No for thrillers usually.

Technical Aspects:

The technical execution of CTRL plays a significant role in its storytelling:

  • Direction: Motwane does an exemplary job juggling three distinct modes here – romantic, comic, and thriller – but some shifts aren’t seamless.
  • Cinematography: The aesthetic of the film can be appreciated through lighting as well as framing to help convey specific emotions along with being upbeat and portraying the energy of the contemporary world.
  • Editing: Mostly very close, it can be seen that some particular sequences could have been better trimmed to keep the interest high right till the end of the movie.
  • Soundtrack: The music fits very much to the story and some songs match both the romance and the thriller settings of the movie.

Performance:

The performances in CTRL are one of its standout features:

  • Ananya Panday is as good as Nella, which makes her smile look real while they are attempting to mend their relationship. She displays both the vulnerable and the strong woman when facing her challenges.
  • Vihaan Samat must have made one heck of a casting call to be chosen to portray Joe and invest so much depth into the role. They bring out a lot of feelings in the series which makes the relation they portray in the series realistic.
  • Supporting Cast: Although the major role belongs to the leads; even the secondary characters do play significant roles. Still, further development could have increased the significance of these lessons.

MoviePopTime Review:

Most recently, I watched CTRL, and this one was quite interesting to me. Right from the start it piqued my interest just in the concept. That an AI can be used to regulate such distress related to mental health also felt timely. One of the prominent things that I noticed the whole time Ananya Panday portrayed Nella was the relatability; with the idea of attempting to fight back in a highly digital world. The stakes were raised when Nella requested the app to delete her ex from her life bringing about shocking events that left me with my fingernails dug into my couch.

The cinematography was wonderful particularly the locations of the big cities and the moments of intimacy were well captured. The music used was also impressive since the lively music also gave the film the feeling it had.

Although I liked the movie as a whole, I have one fault in terms of the narrative structure – it had serious problems with pacing. Some sequences seemed to be stretched out and that flow was compromised as a result of that. Furthermore, some obvious turns reduce the level of its thrill to those, who have already seen several films of this kind.

Conclusion:

All in sum CTRL seems to be turning out to be an interesting thriller wherein themes of contemporary relationships with technology are used. Boasting of an engaging plot supporting it by its talented cast and a quality production it will be a must-watch once it premieres on October 4, 2024.

Some previsable and pace-oriented factors can diminish the storming revealing the role and influence of AI in contemporary human relationships but the concept of Tetarovich’s film is rather important and actual. While travelling with Nella through love and the loss mixed up with technology addiction people may think about their relationships in the modern world.

All in all, CTRL can be placed on the list of new intriguing Hindi film productions that have united romance with an admixed impact of thrills. Anyone interested in a theme that questions the concept of love in the world of constant technological advancement can watch.
