Gangs Of Godavari Worldwide Box Office (After Day 14): Sees Over 82% Drop In Week 2 Collections; Ends Theatrical Run & Streams On OTT.

Vishwak Sen’s Gangs of Godavari saw a severe dip in Week 2 collections following a strong start, most likely due to competition from the Telugu film Manamey, starring Sharwanand.

Vishwak Sen’s Gangs of Godavari, a rural action drama that debuted in theaters on May 31st to high expectations, has suffered a sharp drop in its second week. Despite initial excitement, the picture struggled to maintain audience interest, prompting an early move to the streaming site Netflix. Read on!

The film had a solid start, grossing a healthy 15 crore in its initial week. However, Week 2 revealed a very different story. The Godavari Gangs saw an 82.67% drop in receipts, earning only 2.6 crore over the next seven days. This takes the film’s total net India collection to 17.60 crore (gross collection 20.76 crore), which is much lower than earlier forecasts.

Why Did Garudan’s Box Office Collections Decline in Week 2?

A close analysis of Week 2 collections suggests a struggle to keep pace. Weekday collections remained sluggish, hovering around 0.3 crore. Weekend earnings increased somewhat, with figures of 0.43 crore, 0.45 crore, and 0.49 crore on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, respectively. However, these results show only a minor improvement and highlight the film’s failure to rekindle viewer enthusiasm.

Another Telugu film, Manamey, starring Sharwanand, has also contributed significantly to Gangs of Godavari’s Week 2 woes. Manamey premiered on June 7th and soon became a box office hit, making an impressive 11.5 crore in its first week. This outstanding performance probably drew the audience’s focus away from Gangs of Godavari, affecting its receipts even more.

Garudan’s Ends Theatrical Run and Streams on Netflix

Gangs of Godavari have shifted their strategy to OTT to attract a larger audience and maybe recoup losses. The film became available for streaming on Netflix today, June 14th. Interestingly, Netflix has chosen to release the film in many languages, including Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam, to broaden its popularity outside the Telugu market. This method has the potential to revitalize Gangs of Godavari and help it reach a new audience on the popular streaming platform.

Vishwak Sen and Neha Shetty play the key roles in Gangs of Godavari, directed by Krishna Chaitanya. The film’s supporting cast includes known personalities such as Nasser, Sai Kumar, Hyper Aadi, and Goparaju Ramana, and the soundtrack is by the acclaimed Yuvan Shankar Raja.

It remains to be seen if the movie will be successful on Netflix even though its theatrical run may not have lived up to expectations. The availability of dubbed versions in other languages expands Gangs of Godavari’s possibilities, and its popularity on the streaming platform has the potential to redefine the film’s total performance.
