Story:

The leading roles are given to Thelma, a carrier pony played by Brittany Howard who has only one dream – to perform at a show called Sparklepalooza. Thelma who was rejected an audition and therefore rejections turns bizarre when one day she falls a glitter and becomes a unicorn. Thelma is not as dependent on the company of her band members Otis played by Will Forte and Reggie played by Jon Heder as she is busy fighting Fame demons.

This is the story of Thelma who has to suffer the turning rough for her fame and the demands that such fame come with. It is necessary to emphasize such aspects as relation to oneself and reality, a dream, its cost, and the choice of obedience to oneself.

Review:

Unicorn is a sweet animated feature film that recites the life of Thelma, a pony and the protagonist who from pony fantasies wants to become a unicorn singer. One day Thelma becomes a unicorn out of a pot of glitter and her change of life is covered in newspapers and magazines as she becomes an overnight celebrity. However, the price, that she has to pay for such a kind of popularity that she has, is a lot higher than she could think about.

This work is provided with bright animation, witty original songs and a perfect vocal part, which belongs to Brittany Howard. Thus, from this point of view, the overall background can be considered as familiar, although the film agrees to give a serious final in terms of the important message about one’s personality’s uniqueness and capability of resisting temptations and pressure. Girls and boys, their parents, too, will certainly enjoy the show of the certain “Thelma the Unicorn” for there is much humour in it and for children it will be beneficial to learn the difference between the dream and the reality.

Positives:

  • Vibrant Animation: The movie animation is cute and cheerful by the director who depicts the smile of Blabey illustrations by using bright hues and rippled features to develop characters and settings.
  • Strong Performances: Brittany Howard goes to great lengths to portray Thelma, especially in singing, she’s committed and completely sincere.
  • Engaging Humor: This way the film is full of funny scenes and grotesque that are familiar to young audiences due to miserableness and fruitless attempts at joking.

Negatives:

  • Uneven Pacing: nonetheless, the movie has some flashes of originality, the rhythm with which the movie progresses can create a problem because at some points in the movie it becomes sluggish while at others, one gets an impression that things have been hurried through.
  • Predictable Plot: Nonetheless, it is impossible to call the storyline rather original, and, therefore, the major plot – could hardly be the type of story where change is needed to set people to look for something different and unfamiliar.
  • Underdeveloped Characters: Despite this, some of the main characters are conceived in great depth, and some of the supporting characters are not as developed as the viewers would expect.

Technical Aspects:

  • Direction: Jared Hess and Lynn Wang’s direction allows silly and breathtaking elements present in the film to interweave with the movie’s endearing subtext.
  • Animation: Among all the aspects, certain features are worthy to be noticed here, such as The animation where the movements of the character are fluent, characters have rather non-standard appearance, and, finally, the consequences of the usage of the effects given as the thought of the story.
  • Music: The score that includes original songs perfectly fits the action and was written by John Powell and the newcomer Brittany Howard.

Performance:

Still, Thelma, played by Brittany Howard, also deserves applause for her singing and, perhaps, the actor’s choice helps visualise the main character’s development. Will Forte and Jon Heder are peculiar as Thelma’s bandmates, though Jemaine Clement separates as skilful as the untidy talent dealer, Vic Diamond.

Moviepoptime Review:

Thelma & Range-like moats once again offer a gentle prim instruction, together with accepting one’s self, acquiring a personality, and asking to who that personality belongs. The film adaptation for children based on the storyline originated from the book by Aaron Blabey and tells the story of Thelma the horse becoming a unicorn. Thelma is a good-looking, innocent girl, who finds out that the lights of fame are not so comforting when she becomes an unwitting victim of a car exchange for a joke that turns her into an overnight icon.

The character also has the right posture doing all the actions Also all the actions are done comedically. Music score also plays a role in the story making it to be so hilarious. Children will watch bright graphic and cheerful songs, but adults will notice parodies of homeless men’s worth and fascination with the pop stars. Ergo, Thelma, the Unicorn can be seen Handsomely physically with the help of Laughter and emotions wired and even a Small message for anyone who is watching this. However, it may be a good and, to a great extent, even rather encouraging picture to watch for the families, who are searching for an inspirational movie.

Conclusion:

It is an amusing children’s animated film about a unicorn named Thelma which presents the story of a person who respects his/her dream. It may not be a masterpiece but is far from being a bad movie, which did have some pace issues and a largely predictable plot, light humour, cheerful animations, and brilliant performances make it a more than worthy family comedy. As much as I love Brittany Howard’s voice the cinematographic elements of acceptance and being oneself give more depth to the film. “Thelma the Unicorn” is another compelling animated piece added to Netflix that children and adults will look forward to watching.
