Story:
Joe (Josh W Higgins) is a teenager who has been subject to an unhinged childish and adolescent family life teeming with negligence and abuse. He grows up in poverty and learns to become a resentful person in dealing with life. After being placed into a Christian residential facility for boys Joe finds a loving figure who Influences him to rediscover his faith and come to terms with himself.
Key Plot Points
- A Troubled Childhood: The beginning scenes show Joe’s childhood and his resentment at the way he had been treated – or rather, not treated – by his mother. He deals with his confusion over his identity and frequently becomes violent.
- Finding Faith: In the Christian home, Joe is embraced by a knowledgeable elder who takes his time to teach Joe that he is not a product of the evil he committed. This relationship is crucial and starts building Joe’s views on life.
- The Journey to Redemption: During the period when Joe learns about faith as well as forgiveness, he aims his anger correctly by participating in the Marine Corps. They are personal development and the process of escaping from social roles are depicted well in his story.
- Reconnecting with Denise: During the whole movie, Joe communicates with Denise (another emerging actress), a girl he knew in the past and who plays a significant role in a man’s life. The two characters’ dynamics change because both of them experience their struggles.
The final scene of the film offers an incredibly strong message about a man faced with the prospect of earning his second chance in a society that may not hold much value for all black men who have been imprisoned.
Review:
So far, Average Joe has had mostly positive critics. Critics have described it as factually accurate as well as sappy and emotionally moving with fine acting and criticisms for its speed.
Positives:
- Emotional Depth: The movie minimizes physical body contact but puts much focus on internal battles which makes it easier for the audience to relate with Joe.
- Strong Performances: Josh Wiggins gives a strong performance that proves his versatility as an actor. He depicts Joe in a very realistic and, I would say, honest manner.
- Inspirational Themes: The viewers will receive moral values such as faith, perseverance, and forgiveness as orally presented in the cinema.
Negatives:
- Pacing Issues: A few observers mentioned that some segments seemed to take too long which was likely to reduce interactivity.
- Predictable Plot Elements: Nevertheless, the story shines where the action is engaging, and although it can sometimes be quite predictable to fans of inspirational dramas.
- Character Development: While mighty and such main characters are sketched thoroughly, some secondary ones can hardly be described as thoroughly drawn characters that would appeal to middle-class viewers.
Technical Aspects:
Average Joe is fairly long and can run for about 110 minutes allowing for character development and thematic discussion.
- Cinematography: Chris Norr is the man behind the camera and how effectively he has captured the serene gorgeousness of a small town along with the dramatic reality of the story. Natural lighting plays a critical role in giving intimacy to scenes thus romantic scenes have more natural lighting and give tension shots more tension.
- Direction: David L. Williams shows subtlety and close attention to the characters’ psychology in the play. He masters the art of weaving in suspense with a fine character study interspersed with soliloquies or focused introspection.
- Editing: Unlike pacing, editing has a more or less consistent rhythm but doesn’t excel in smooth transitions between scenes. Some frames will profit from the series being edited even more closely for the series to flow better from one scene into another.
Performance:
- Josh Wiggins as Joe: Josh Wiggins deservedly performs of a lifetime as Joe. He remits the frailty and tenacity of the character coupled with a complicated internal landscape well. Knowledge of the inner conflict well depicted by Wiggins enriches Joe’s character’s redemption experience as he tries to seek redemption despite the inner conflict.
- Supporting Cast: The other characters well played give the movie an impressive touch, but some of the characters fail to have the depth of play to an extent that can trigger the audience.
- Mentor Character: As we go through the film we see that the mentor figure is used as the way of helping Joe with his problems. This character presents warm and wise guidance, which is always needed to give the right help and turn Joe, who changes throughout the film.
- Denise: Denise plays a nursing role in the film and she is also increased as the love interest of Joe. Her character serves quite well to build up the plot as she faces her problems and yet contributes to Joe’s way of perceiving and wanting to live life.
Moviepoptime Review:
The whole storyline was good, the video production was better than the low budget (which I like) but other than that it is a great storyline. Cole did his thing on this! His facial expressions were ugly as lol he looked constipated but other than that his acting and the casting were good. That is going to remain classic, I can fully assure you that it will sell platinum in the black hole.
But a great series did not anticipate it would be this great; this was a show I must have in my life. But really, the best we can hope for is to get even more shows that are this intense and have such a great storyline. I could’ve seen this being a movie, but I think they did a great justice by spreading it out. The 10 million was a great concept because it put everyone under the bus.
Conclusion:
The typical or average Joe can be operationally defined as an inspiring and heartwarming drama exploring the concept of overcoming and transformation. The program wisely and profoundly applies issues by using engaging performances and fathomless narrative layers of the concept of identity and redemption to captivate the audience till the final moments of its duration.
Though it may be somewhat slow at times, and have some clichés inherent to all inspirational movies, its greatest virtue is the marked sincerity of the portrayal of individual and collective hardships. It can be concluded that using cinematography as entertainment media, at the same time presenting contemporary issues of society focused on hope seekers in the film.
Overall, Average Joe should be on any array for those persons who like to watch dramas focused on the characters, who watch stories about people learning to fight for themselves and make changes in their lives. Its screening in theaters allows viewers who are waiting for serious work without shallow shots, which makes you think about improving themselves in modern society.
Viewed from this perspective, the story of Joe and his transformation as well as the viewers’ reception of it pose larger questions about identity and the way that we, as audiences, can be called upon to hope and wish at transformational moments—thus the larger interest of this film is not so much in the representation of Deep South’s, but in the way it offers us a discourse on self that is potent enough to inform or even transform
