Story

The movie starts with a believable lead character, Valmiki (Murali Sharma) a middle-class man developing animosity towards his affluent colleague Ramachandra(Jayaram) and his family. What the audience gets to know is the fact that Valmiki and Ramachandra are neighbours and they had their children exchanged at birth, while Valmiki takes care of Ramachandra’s son Raj (Sushanth) in turn, Ramachandra takes care of Valmiki’s son Bantu (Allu Arjun).

Since Bantu comes of age his father Valmiki brutally abuses him and neglects him in favour of his brother Raj. But Bantu is still the same kind-hearted and diligent young man who wants to make his father happy. On realizing that Ramachandra’s family had abandoned him because they thought he had died and had taken a different baby in exchange; he decides to help Ramachandra’s mother have her son back, and this brings so many funny and emotional moments. The main issues that seriously reflect the given movie are family, attaining one’s identity, and love that is accepted. It also has a love interest in Bantu with Amulya(Reminded of Pooja Hedge at some point in time).

Review

Speaking of criticisms the film was received well by the critics, who pointed out that Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo has a little bit of everything – there’s romance, drama, comedy, emotion and lots of swag.”

Plus Points

  • Strong performances: Allu Arjun proves his mettle in acting and offers some outstanding dancing steps. Tabu is as usual great and Jayaram too could be noticed in a very brief cameo.
  • Engaging story: The theme of the movie is also tender and it is based on switch-at-birth the tempo of the movie is quite fast and engrossing.
  • Thaman S’s music: A major plus for this film is the songs by the music director Thaman S, who arranges songs that fit the mood and tenor of the film perfectly.
  • Trivikram Srinivas’s direction: There is a vibrant use of humour with strong social relevance interwoven in the movie much to the director’s tradition in handling his movies.

Minus Points

  • Predictable plot: All in all, it is for this reason that the story portrayed in the motion picture is quite captivating; however, the plot is quite traditional, telling the story of rags to riches, and quite often the viewer can predict many perceptions of the event.
  • Uneven pacing: It can also be said sometimes some episodes are more stretched out than necessary, on the other end there are parts of the film that are rushed.
  • Underdeveloped supporting characters: For all the detailed and elaborate sketches given to the principal artists, some of the characters such as Nivetha Pethuraj’s Amrita are not fully developed.

Technical Aspects

Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo has a runtime of 165 minutes and is presented in a 2.39:1 aspect ratio. P.S. Vinod has done splendid work with the camera and the audience can enjoy the locations as well as the rich dress codes without difficulty. There is some good work in this respect by the editor Naveen Nooli also, but one does get the feeling of the pacing.

Music and Background score of the film; Thaman S has topped the heights, the music of this film has become a chartbuster and the background music has made the emotional setup in the film scenes much better. There is also a high. Scalably typed level in the movie, in particular, the sets, lights and costumes of characters and actors also contribute much to the glamorous view of the movie.

Performance

Stylish star Allu Arjun gives the best output of his career, as he effortlessly portrays the character of Bantu. He gets to act both funny and serious and dances very well on the set. Amrita Rao does justice to her role of Pooja and looks fantastic Dancing romantic with Arjun is Pooja Hegde playing the character of Amulya. Despite having minor roles Tabu and Jayaram give a very good account of themselves with Tabu being subtle as the wife of Ramachandra.

Murali Sharma is apt as the vile father Valmiki for which people would despise how evil his character is and feel sorry for him in the process. Sushanth and Nivetha Pethuraj seem apt for their roles and so is Navdeep, however, the material was underused for such fine artists.

MoviePopTime Review:

I had a great time watching Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo. Stylish Star Allu Arjun has done a wonderful job in playing the role of Bantu, a middle-class guy who realises he was born into the wrong political family. The film is a comedy-romantic-drama movie that creates a good combination of these three philosophies of the movie. The first half had a commercial element full of fun songs and Allu Arjun’s irresistible personality. Well-executed comedic and dancing skills that worked for him were a bonus I thought. That being said the second part is more or less predictable with the occasional slow moments but the heartfelt scenes more than make up for those.

The young artist was rightly supported by the senior artist Murali Sharma, who portrayed the Bantu father wisely and prominently. While there were indeed some aspects of the plot that I found rather unoriginal I could not simply let the game bore me. Thaman also scored well for the movie and became one of the highlights of the movie. On the whole, Venu Sky Warner has completely justified his mark with youthful styling and realistic performances while Tabu as a strong character in the movie has proved she is a versatile actress. Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo all set to hit the screens is a perfect family entertainer for this Pongal season for Telugu audiences.

Conclusion

Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo is a fun-filled family drama with a wholesome package for fans who love Allu Arjun. From the storyline perspective and brilliant performing arts to the technical section, the Telugu Cine World audience should not miss this film. It is also not a new thing for a movie to provide a simple and entertaining plus emotional experience but what it does is that it does it well and that is why the movie is considered as a commercial entertainer.
