Amrit Sagar gave his opinions on Nitesh Tiwari‘s Ramayana, which stars Ranbir Kapoor as the lead.
Ramanand Sagar, an Indian director, producer, and writer, created the first epic narrative of Ramayana, which is still ingrained in our memories. It starred Arun Govil and had the same reception when it was re-aired during the pandemic. Om Raut directed Adipurush last year, with Prabhas playing Lord Ram and Kriti Sanon as Devi Sita. Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi will now play their respective roles in Nitesh Kumar’s film. Amrit Sagar, Ramanand Sagar’s grandson, has now spoken out about Tiwari’s film.
Images of Ranbir and Sai dressed as actors from the film leaked online a few weeks ago from the sets of Tiwari’s epic story. Much criticism was leveled at the leak, and some sources said they were reconsidering their appearance. But last year, Om Raut’s film received harsh criticism for several reasons, including its discourse and images.
Amrit Sagar, Ramanand Sagar’s grandson, is a director, producer, and writer who has worked on TV shows such as Hatim, Jai Shri Krishna, and Dharam Veer. He recently spoke with indianexpress.com on Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana, in which Ranbir Kapoor plays the title character. He noted that, while people have the right to create epic sagas, they should do so under the source.
Amrit Sagara stated, “I believe Ramayan should be created by everyone; why not? Nobody owns the rights to the Ramayana.” Ramanand Sagar’s grandson went on to say, “My only advice is to do it honestly.” Don’t try to make the Ramayan by saying, “Now I’ll make the Ramayan from this person’s or that person’s point of view.” Ramayan isn’t like that. It is named Ramayan because it narrates the narrative of Ram.”
Amrit appeared to make a veiled jab at Adipurush, saying, “Ramleelas have been happening in our country for generations. And they completely follow the story. The inflammatory language in Adipurush was rationalized for the uninformed by the writer, Manoj Muntashir, who cited Ramleelas. Manoj told The Lallantop that they looked at Adipurush through the lens of Ramleela, and they may have been mistaken.
Meanwhile, Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana, starring Ranbir Kapoor, is likely to be released in 2025.
