Story:

To summarize I write the story about Sam: a cancer patient in hospice who finds himself in the middle of the alien invasion. She works with a porter named Bloody Mary and her service cat Frodo; She encounters a host of characters on her journey through New York: one of them is Eric (Joseph Quinn) who is a law student in the middle of creatures’ boycott.

Two of the characters, Sam and Eric, are shown to be trying to find their way out of the city because they cannot tolerate the noise levels which are fatal to the outer space invaders for some unclear reason; on their way, they become friends and look for a place near the water where the movie suggests the aliens cannot locate them.

Review:

A Quiet Place Part II begins the analysis of the franchise from a different approach compared to the previous films: its beginning is an alien attack, and the viewers are shown what happened on the first day of the creatures. In this, it does create suspense and has excellent casting but unfortunately, it does suffer from problems of pacing and characterization.

Positives:

  • Strong Performances: Lupita Nyong’o has done a really good job in portraying Sam and she has well emphasized the weak and strong side of Sam. Joseph Quinn also does a great job portraying Eric and delivers both emotion and good screen chemistry with Nyong’o.
  • Tension and Atmosphere: Still, I think the movie is pretty good in terms of establishing the setting and using both acoustic and, even more, visual anticipation as key elements to develop a sense of fear.
  • Character-Driven Narrative: We also must state that it is one of the games in the series where characters’ appearance and their emotions during the scary scene provide an extra layer, allowing us to go through the game once again.

Negatives:

  • Pacing Issues: Slow motion, though, can be a problem in a couple of scenes of the movie because some scenes are unnecessarily stretched while other scenes are much shorter and informative.
  • Predictable Plot Points: Sometimes the situations may look stereotyped and understandable to the hardcore followers of the detective series and the part may not be loaded with surprises like the preceding segments.
  • Underdeveloped Supporting Characters: Sam and Eric are dynamic though the film’s other characters are not fully realized, which may make the viewers hungry for more of their character growth.

Technical Aspects:

  • Direction: Michael Sarnoski as a director keeps suspense going all through the movie but at times’ arguably overuses horror cliches instead of innovation.
  • Cinematography: One needs to compliment a splendid work on the cinematography which is manifested in the representation of New York City’s environment, as well as in the dark narrow spaces within the movie.
  • Sound Design: There is no doubt that the aspect of the soundtrack is still one, which defines the movie; the usage of silence and sounds creates suspense and creates an atmosphere in the film.

Performance:

Sam is played by Lupita Nyong’o, who also delivers a touching, and very believable performance. Joseph Quinn is also nice on-screen as Eric, which makes us believe that Llewyn and Eric could be friends. Other cast members are even good, nonetheless, the characters they play also do not experience a complex change.

Moviepoptime Review:

The story is not as family-oriented as the previous ones, and I guess it is for the better. I also got frustrated by seeing ignorant kids fumbling in situations in this sort of movie. Oh yes, there is a very cute cat so it doesn’t feel like a horror at all! It would be quite useful to witness the beginning of the aliens’ attack, which is depicted in this movie.

There are no since I was very attentive for almost 2 hours that the movie lasted without any time of finding it boring. Nonetheless, I would like they have delved deeper into the alien’s background because there is so much more to consider than just the story of two characters. The sound works well, the CGI is very good sometimes, but not at other times. The movie’s emotional powerful beautiful Lupita’s performance strengthens the film.

Conclusion:

In fact, “A Quiet Place Day One” gives viewers not only the setting of the film but also changes the very fundamentals of existence that have appeared to be such characteristics as survival and mutual reliance in times of threats. Yes, it has some slow-mo scenes and creates some clichés and predictable moments in all horror films but Mr. Ghost is worth to be included in the franchise due to the powerful performance of the major cast, particularly Nyong’o and Quinn and the concise capability of the movie in the build-up of suspense.

Audiences that enjoyed “A Quiet Place” will like this direction of the second film focusing on the first attack, whereas newcomers may get a good start to the world of this movie. Therefore “A Quiet Place Day One” can be used as an example of the episodes that must be attributed to the sphere of the show called emotional and thriller, at the same time, the show has episodes that reveal its idea, such as the evil world, souls, etc.
